The Sunset Room National Harbor Wedding
September 21, 2016I’m kind of a Northern Virginia junkie, so in my personal life I don’t find many reasons to cross the bridge into Maryland. Luckily, my wedding photography business pushes my boundaries and last weekend I found myself across the water at National Harbor for a Sunset Room wedding. Photographing Jenny and Jeff’s wedding was such a pleasant start to fall wedding season because the couple and their families and friends were so warm, gracious, and happy.
Jenny got ready at the Gaylord National Harbor hotel in a gorgeous multi-room suite. Before leaving for St Paul’s Episcopal, she opened a wedding gift from Jeff. It was a guide book for National Parks–only it wasn’t. Hidden inside was a beautiful pearl bracelet from Tiffany’s (squee!). And as if that wasn’t creative and thoughtful enough, Jeff had hidden it in the page for Zion National Park where he proposed!
Jenny and Jeff had their wedding ceremony at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA. While it had all of the traditional elements of an Episcopal ceremony the couple made it extra special by having Jenny’s brother play one of the hymns on guitar, and also including the lyrics and music in the wedding program so everyone could sing along.
After the ceremony everyone piled back onto the shuttles to National Harbor for the wedding reception at The Sunset Room by Wolfgang Puck. We were able to quickly snap some portraits just as the sun was setting over the water. Then, when it was completely dark, Ben and I pulled the couple back onto the dock for some nighttime portraits in front of the iconic Capital Wheel.
